DUI/DWI PROBATION & EDUCATION
Following an arrest for an alcohol or drug related offense a defendent may lose their driver's license, s/he can ask the court to order participation in ASAP in lieu of a sentence. A probation counselor is assigned to the client to do an assessment and to refer the client to the proper ASAP-run education group. The defendent is ordered to comply with probation supervision which includes random breath/urine screens and possibly antabuse monitoring. Attendance at support group meetings (Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, etc.) may also be required. The probation officer will refer the client to the appropriate education program. If the ASAP staff and a licensed therapist feel a client is addicted and/or in need of immediate care, s/he may be referred directly to an intensive in or outpatient treatment center. Clients are required to comply with all probation and treatment components. A client will be returned to the courts for any non-compliance. Probation appointments are scheduled periodically through the probation period. Some of the education groups are available in Korean.
